Navy SEAL in Iraq who has been charged with abusing a captured and accused Iraqi terrorist, the man alleged to have masterminded the ambush killing of four U.S. military contractors working for the security firm “Blackwater” (now known as “XE Services’) claims he is innocent of the charges the U.S. military is now bringing against him. The charges brought by the military are dereliction of preformance or duty for willfully failing to safeguard a detainee. making a false official statement, and assault.

The charges stem from an alleged incident after McCabe and other Navy SEALS conducted a special operation to capture an Iraqi named Ahmed Hasim Abed who was the allegeded mastermind of the 2004 ambush and killing of four American military contractors in Fallajuh. McCabe’s attorney Neal Pucket told Fox News, who broke the story, that his client is being charged essentially for a “punch to the gut”.

The killings were worldwide news at the time, as two of the American’s where hung from a bridge and mutilated publicly. The images were broadcast around the world , One of the men killed in 2004, Scott Helvenston, was a former Navy SEAL. The case is expected to have its first hearing next week in Virginia.
